This month, the  will showcase an impressive line-up of eighteen VetCompass research projects, highlighting the program’s role in advancing veterinary knowledge. With twelve oral and six poster presentations, this year’s contributions span a diverse range of topics, reinforcing VetCompass’ commitment to real-world, data-driven insights in primary veterinary care.

Reflecting VetCompass’ strong support for emerging researchers, this year’s presenters represent all levels of academic engagement: ten undergraduate veterinary students, four MRes candidates, one PhD candidate, and two lecturers will share their work. The studies explore critical clinical and epidemiological questions, from feline anaemia and antimicrobial use in feline cystitis to gabapentin prescribing trends in dogs. Other key investigations delve into the clinical impact of brachycephaly, canine prostatitis, surgical outcomes in cranial cruciate ligament rupture, and neoplasia in giant dog breeds.

Several presentations address pressing welfare concerns, including public attitudes toward extreme body shapes in brachycephalic breeds, the influence of fluoxetine on canine behaviour, and the real-world management of heat-related illness in dogs. Other studies validate novel diagnostic tools, ensuring that VetCompass research translates into tangible benefits for veterinary professionals and their patients.

By fostering research across all career stages, VetCompass is helping to build the next generation of veterinary researchers. The diverse range of projects at this year’s BSAVA Congress highlights the program’s role in supporting evidence-based insights that address real-world clinical challenges and improve veterinary care.
